The CDG showed their appreciation to Richard Kavanagh AKA SF for 25 years of reporting water conditions in the Dales. The bottles were presented to Richard the Helwith Inn on 29th November by Geoff Crossley and they consisted of Guinness, Brown Ale, Pedigree, Larger, White Wine and Poitin.

I notice that Richard has not posted readings for a few days. Has he actually retired from Visbot after 25 years?

No he has not retired, he did say his computer connection was down following the storm the other day.

Just to set the record straight, we think that Richard began supplying us with rainfall and vis data (for the CDG VisBot) in summer 2000. I reckon that 2020 was thus his 20th year. (The little reward was planned for last year but the Covid situation caused it to be delayed until recently.) It was Richard who came up with the idea of a water clarity index based on names of alcoholic drinks (see Kev's list in the original post, above). Over the years it's proved to be surprisingly objective and really valuable; we're extremely grateful to him!
