Thread adaptor for old Poseidon reg

I have recently aquired a Poseidon 2305 1st stage regulator.

This is the old style with O-ring inside the reg and metric? threads.

I've got a regulator hose with the correct thread, so I've given it a try and it breathes very nicely. Visually, it is also in excellent condition, with all threads still in good order and un-tampered.

The only problem is that I don't have a pressure gauge with the correct thread.

I've had a look online and there are any number of adaptors on the market; can anyone tell me what threads I'm after, or better still, has anyone got a spare they are willing to part with?

Thanks,

Pete

Last time I had a problem like this to solve I took all the bits to a hydraulics place:

http://www.powerpipes.co.uk/

They know screw fittings well; I told them what pressures I was working with and they sorted me out. Obviously one needs to be aware of potential oily residues (with items not designed for breathing systems), so you might consider cleaning any components thoroughly before use in a breathing situation. (Disclaimer: use of any item for a purpose it's not designed for is potentially hazardous, so don't do this unless you know how to do it safely!)

The other approach is to go and talk to one man band dive shops. Such establishments usually keep a box of old parts, sometimes useful to plunder.

Finally, there is still a residue of old equipment originating from John Buxton with the Northern Section, which may just have something of use. I'm far from certain this source will sort your problem, so not worth going out of your way for. But if you happen to be in the Dales, talk to Northern Section members about accessing this material.

Maybe something above will help.

if you are talking about the old style first stage then the thread is a gas thread and the seal inside at the bottom of the threaded port should not be an O ring but a ptfe washer. poseidon used to sell the adaptors so you could use modern hoses with a UNF thread.

Thanks both.

The seal does look like a PTFE washer not an o-ring. Poor choice of words on my part.

The poseidon website states that the thread is 1/8 and needs an adaptor to take it to 7/16 but it doesn't state the type of thread.

I've just spoken to Bristol Hose, who think it will be 1/8 BSP to 7/16 UNF. They have the adaptors on the shelf in mild and can order them in stainless. Working pressure is 400bar.

Just waiting for a price...

Plenty there Andrew, but the one size I can't find is 1/8 BSP male to 7/16 UNF female...

Bristol Hose seems OK on price and it's just around the corner from work. £3 for mild steel or £10 for stainless.

I'll pick one up on Friday in time for a test dive in the evening 🙂

The on site shop at Stoney Cove used to have a lot of Poseidon parts.

Pete, there's a good chance that i have a 1/8 BSP to 7/16 UNF HP adapter in my spares set.

How soon do you need it?

Thanks Rich. It's not desperately urgent. I've managed to find an industrial one the right size, but it's pretty long, so not ideal. If you have a proper one that you don't need, that would be great.

Did you manage to look in your spares box Rich? If you did have the right adaptor, would you also be coming to Hidden Earth ?
