Valve coming apart

Incident Date

2011-01-10

Incident Description

While diving sump 4 my second valve a Plastic US divers conself second stage came apart where the hose enters the second stage. I do not remember it being caught on anything nor me pulling out of a snag. It just seemed to fall apart. I do not think it would have taken place if it had been in my mouth but I do not know. It would not have taken place with a metal second stage I am sure. Not a real problem as I just turned the thing off and had more air than required in the other bottle. I do not tend to use plastic second stages but never thought this would happen.

Lessons Learned

I am not sure as Plastic second stages are weight for weight stronger than brass and a conself is a tryed and tested valve. I will say that the amount of air coming out may have upset some people.
