2019-07-13Having passed the first five sumps (c 250 - 300 m of diving) in the cave the diver dekitted before continuing a caving trip. Whilst dekitting, a cylinder slid onto the diver\'s mask shattering the lens. For once, no spare mask was being carried, just a spare strap. After a 3 hour caving trip, the two divers returned to the sump pool with the intent of diving out with only one mask as it was unclear whether the other pair of divers in the cave had exited. Fortunately, one of the divers exploring downstream arrived and the 3 shared two masks, shuttling it between them to allow everyone to exit. Large gas margins enabled multiple additional trips through the sumps.Don't be clumsy; ensure that the mask is placed well out of the way of cylinders and other heavy objects. Carry a spare mask. A spare mask will be left in the cave whilst exploration continues at this site.
