Burst hose beyond awkward restriction
Incident Date
2016-06-03
Incident Description
Sudden air leak from interstage hose on left side. This happened on the wrong side of a fairly technical restriction which requires a partial dekit to pass. It was necessary to turn air on and off during the breathing cycle. Coming back through the restriction (in zero vis) was awkward as I didn't have enough hands to operate the left cylinder tap carry the detached right hand cylinder carry the reel and maintain contact with the line. This incident was awkward rather than critical but it's mentioned here purely to allow comment in theLessons learned part.
Lessons Learned
The breathing whilst turning air on and off routine in the CDG training and qualification test is of great value. This isn\'t the first time I\'ve had a hose fail and I know others have. I\'d argue that this aspect of training is very important.
