1905-08-06The diver was exiting the cave with a group of enthusiatic but inexperienced sherpa / cavers at the 110ft entrance pitch the diver ascended to set up a haul sytem for the cylinders and other diving equipment. The sherpa cavers had been briefed as to how to rig the haul bags ( on the same rope as previously ascended ) All went well until the last bag containing a 7 litre cylinder fell from approx 60ft to the floor. The hauler was not aware of this until the bag appeared at the surface with the cylinder now sporting an upright A clamp pillar valve bent at 45 degrees. The cylinder was gently emptied on the fellside before being carried home. It also had substatial dents to the base of the cylinder.Use experienced sherpa cavers and or substanially brief those who don know. Even one additional person would have made a difference. Perhaps it would have been better to station myself at the bottom rather than do the hauling...
