Another MCCR CO2 hit
Incident Date
2004-06-07
Incident Description
Divers A and B were line laying on homemade rebreathers in a flooded mine. Diver A had a crane fall on him en route to the end of the line. As agreed A turned after 30 minutes into the dive at a depth of 20 m whilst B continued. On exit A had difficulty breathing due to the small scrubber being exhausted and made his exit by going semi-closed on the same unit. A surface with a CO2 headache and B took him to the pub to recover.
Lessons Learned
An overhead enviroment is not the place to test homemade rebreathers. Use fresh absorbent for every dive and size the scrubber accordingly to the length of the dive.
