|CDG Newsletter Issue 239 – April 2026

Editorial

As always, thank you to the contributors for submitting dive logs and articles to this Newsletter.

As articles for this Newsletter came in, I was struck by the efforts the Group membership sometimes goes to, to achieve its aims. Whether it is developing a novel method of visualising a sump, or achieving closure between two systems after 17 years of effort, the CDG has not lost its spirit of exploration and innovation. Please keep it up!

The CDG’s 80th anniversary since its founding will be celebrated in the Yorkshire Dales in April. I urge all members to come along and join in, details are on page 21. The AGMs of recent years have suffered from patchy attendances, with two of the last four failing to reach the required minimum attendance. This leaves the Group looking lost. The UK’s premier cave diving group needs to be supported by its membership in order to present a competent face to the world. An unfortunate consequence of the Group’s expanding membership is that the numbers of attendees required to achieve a quorate level rises, as this is a percentage of the total number of members. Please come along and show your support. The Dales is the best region in the UK for caving (I should declare an interest here) so there’s no excuse not to come along.

Please continue to submit diving logs, articles, top tips, book reviews and changes of diving status via newslettereditor@cavedivinggroup.org.uk or Section secretaries. The deadline for the July 2026

Newsletter is 1 June 2026.

Safe diving.
