CDG Newsletter Issue 209 – October 2018

|CDG Newsletter Issue 209 – October 2018

Editorial

The successful outcome of the unprecedented international effort to rescue thirteen people from the Tham Luang Non Cave in Thailand is now well known due to the significant worldwide media coverage. Tragically, this success came at the cost of Saman Kunan, former Thai Navy diver, who died during the rescue operation. No further details of the rescue are contained within this Newsletter, although it is hoped to include information in future editions which may be of use to CDG members. Some lessons identified from the events in Thailand have already been incorporated into a recent Northern Section / Cave Rescue Organisation training event. A report of this underwater rescue training will be included in NL 210. Those wishing to find out more about the Thailand rescue can hear Jason Mallinson’s presentation at the Kendal Mountain Festival where Christine Grosart will also be talking about her recent Izvor Licanke expedition. Both talks feature in the Petzl Underground Session on Fri 16 Nov.

The deadline for contributions of dive logs, diary events, diver status changes and other notices for inclusion in the next Newsletter is 1 December. Please note that it will be the final edition guaranteed to arrive with members prior to the CDG AGM which will be organised by the Somerset Section. Please remember that the deadline for renewing subs is 1 December 2018. Section Secretaries will provide you with the details you require and collect any outstanding GDPR forms you may also have. Safe diving.
